The Original Trauma: Discover of the Other. The Supreme Challenge: Coexistence

(Sept. 26, 2022) Psychoanalysis, this science often considered as a pseudo-religion, affirms that every human individual comes into the world naively believing that he is alone, that he can do whatever he wants and that he can get whatever he likes; to be infinite in space, time and power; to be God: it is what Siegmund Freud called the "pleasure principle". But sooner or later every human individual realizes that he is not alone in the world, that there are other individuals like him, and so he discovers that he is not infinite, but finite:
1) finite in space, insofar as the Others share, that is, they share-with-me the world, and therefore prevent me from being the only master of the world;
2) finite in time, as I was born and I will die, therefore the past and the future do not belong to me, they belong to Others before and after me, only the present belongs to me;
3) and finite in power, as I cannot do everything I want and get everything I like, but I can only do what the Others allow me and authorize me to do, I can only get what the Others allow me to get.

In other words, every human individual discovers, sooner or later, that the Others are an obstacle for him: homo homini lupus, every man is a ferocious wolf ready to tear me to pieces.

But soon after, every human individual discovers that he needs the Others: first of all, he is born because he is generated by other human beings; then, as a child, he needs his parents to feed him, take care of him when he gets sick, teach him to dress, tie his shoes, wash, read, write and count, cross the street, shop; finally, as an adult, he needs someone to get him food, clothes, a house, a car, a computer, someone to give him an income in exchange for his work, policemen to defend him from malicious people, soldiers to defend him by invaders, teachers, doctors, rulers.

In other words, the Others are not only an obstacle for me, they are also an help: not only homo homini lupus, but also homo homini deus, as the Talmud already taught when commenting on the creation of the woman narrated in Genesis: «The Lord said: "It is not good that the man is lame: I want to make him an help in front of him". Question: why does He say "in front"? Because, if the man deserves it, the woman will be an help to him; but if he does not deserve it, the woman will stand in front of him as an enemy».

Each human individual coexists, that is, exists with the Others, exists from the Others, and exists thanks to the Others; this is what Freud called the "reality principle". The majority of individuals accept, more or less serenely (more or less, never quite) this fact, and learn to coexist with their peers; some, however, feel so hurt by this "original trauma" that they choose to withdraw into themselves, not to share the world with the Others, and become autistic. But even among those who accept to exist with the Others, the original wound always remains hidden, it is healed but does not disappear, it is always ready to reopen each time our concrete relationship with one or more of our fellow men is transformed into one clash between opposing wills, between opposing desires. At that moment each of us is called to make a choice between the "pleasure principle" and the "reality principle", between the desire to satisfy one's own pleasure at the cost of suppressing the Others, and the need to moderate one's desires. in order to make them compatible with the wishes of others in a universal network of coexistence.

What we have said so far for individuals also applies to peoples. Even peoples, in fact, are born with the naive belief that each of them is the only representative of the human race, as can be seen from the fact that many peoples - the Etruscans or Rasenna, the African Bantu, the Inuit of Greenland - called and call themselves, in their languages, simply "men"; but every people, sooner or later, discovers that there are other peoples who limit their dominion over the world, that every people is born from other peoples prior to it, that every people needs to import material goods and knowledge from other peoples which it does not own. In other words, just as every human individual can be an obstacle or an help to other human individuals, so every people can be an obstacle or an help to other peoples.

Faced with this dilemma, between homo homini deus and homo homini lupus, pessimistic philosophers like Hobbes conclude that humans are forever destined to fight against each other, unless some of them unite into a people and accept to be slaves of an absolute sovereign in exchange for an always partial peace in space and time, because the union of some individuals in a people is always accompanied by division and war between various peoples, and because the union of those individuals into a people is always exposed to the risk that they will again divide and fight against each other in a "civil war".

We Globalists, on the other hand, are firmly convinced, because the life of individuals and peoples proves it, that in the end victory belongs to peaceful coexistence and not to the war of all against all, to homo homini deus and not to homo homini lupus: this is demonstrated not only by the fact that even in a criminal association, even in the "band of brigands" that philosophers always talk about, even in a kingdom of devils it is necessary that there is a minimum of collaboration between the members, of moderation and temperament of individual desires, in a word of justice, but also the tragic threat of the current pandemic, which can only be averted when all human individuals, all over the world, of all peoples, are vaccinated against Covid, and not once, but periodically and at each new generation. The life of individuals and the history of peoples show that mankind is a web, it is like the web of a spider, a fabric in which every thread is tied to all the other threads; if even one thread breaks, the whole web falls. As Pope Francis / Jorge Mario Bergoglio said, "No one is saved alone: ​​either we save ourselves all together, or no one is saved"; but this is not only true for the pandemic, it is true for every aspect of life and history. No human individual and no people exists alone: ​​either we coexist, that is, we all exist together, or there is none.

In the Star Trek saga the "good guys", that is the members of the Federation of United Planets, have to face three different evil peoples: the Klingons, territorialists, traditionalists, passionate and violent, who recall the Russians; the Romulans, degenerate descendants of the Vulcans, refined, bureaucratic, isolationist and militaristic, who recall the Chinese; and finally the Borg, interconnected man-machine hybrids that exist only to forcibly assimilate every intelligent being in the Universe to their Hive-Collectivity, which certainly recall the Muslims. Throughout the Star Trek saga the members of the Federation, who are certainly inspired by the citizens of the Greco-Roman-Jewish-Christian West led by the United States of America, are constantly exposed to a double threat, either of being defeated and subjugated. as peoples, either to join "spiritually" to the ideology of their adversaries, to become themselves Klingons, Romulans or Borg; so too, in the real world, the inhabitants of the liberal and democratic West are constantly exposed to a double threat, either of being defeated and subjugated by Russia, China, Islam or an unholy alliance among them, or to join "spiritually" to the ideology of their enemies, to become themselves Russians, Chinese or Muslims.

But in the end the victory belongs to the Good, both in the fantasy world and in the real world. In the Star Trek saga, the Klingons, to save themselves from a cosmic catastrophe that endangers their home planet, sign peace with the Federation; the Romulans are almost completely exterminated by the explosion of a supernova, and the survivors are reconciled with the Vulcans; and the Borg, the Absolute Enemy, are infected by the "good guys" with a neurolytic virus that kills them all, from first to last. So it will be in the real world: Russians and Chinese, already threatened by demographic decline, pollution and pandemic, will sooner or later lay down their arms and join the future World Empire, while the Muslims, the Absolute Enemy of mankind, they have already been infected with the virus of secularism, that is, of the Christian distinction between the "things of God" and the "things of Caesar", and this virus, deadly for their monistic ideology, will eventually DESTROY them.
